#11 End of the Year Observations
Solstice & Supermoon were on our minds as the harvest season draws to a close. The last of the fruit on the trees is forlornly hanging in there. Will it feed some birds? The ravens are still around. We snuggle inside around the warm woodstove and plan holiday meals with our bounty- frozen strawberries for smoothies and apples for pies. Kale has a steady presence, but it seems to be more food for the slugs than for our soups. We pick it anyway.

ORCHARD UPDATE
As the sun retreats behind the tree line, we head to Big River Beach and beyond. Sunset now aligns with the beach and everyday brings a new, wonderful play of light, sound and smell as the ocean and the sky bring joy for life into our lives. I head back into the Butsu Studio to begin a couple of quick acrylic sketches of our gorgeous coastal sunsets. We are so thankful for all the gifts of the land and the ability to call this magical place our home.

Small works @ the Co-op
Supporting the Mendocino Coast Senior Center
In this giving season, the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino had a fine selection of 8x8 artworks priced at $150 including paintings, mixed media collages, prints and photography. Half the proceeds from each piece in this special selection will be given to support the Redwood Coast Seniors, Inc. The center serves lunches daily Monday through Friday, offers many classes including exercise, genealogy, and has special interest groups that knit, play the ukulele, quilt, write poetry, etc. They run an excellent thrift shop at 490 S. Harold Street in Fort Bragg. Rides are available for seniors and disabled individuals through the center as well.
